Garlic Butter Steak Bites with Crispy Potatoes

This quick, easy, and delicious meal is one of my favourite dinner recipes. I don’t mind spending time in the kitchen, but these garlic butter steak bites are ideal when you don’t have much time or need to do something fast. They are ready in under 30 minutes, and it’s all cooked in one pan. Let me know if you give this recipe a try!

Ingredients required (for 3 people)

To prepare this dish, you will need:

  • 600 g of steak (ribeye, sirloin, or strip)
  • 500 g of diced potatoes
  • 4 tbsp of butter
  • 2 tbsp of olive oil
  • 1 tsp of sea salt
  • 1 tsp of fresh ground black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp of thyme
  • 5 Fresh cloves of minced garlic
  • Chopped parsley (for garnish)
  • Green onions (for garnish – optional)

Preparation steps:

1. Season the steak: Cut the steak into small pieces. Put it into a bowl and season it with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Sprinkle it with a little bit of olive oil and mix well.

2. Get Started: Start by heating a large cast-iron (or stainless steel) skillet over medium heat. Add a drizzle of olive oil along with two tablespoons of butter, letting it melt and coat the bottom of the pan.

2. Cook the Potatoes: Once the butter has melted, toss in the diced potatoes. Move them a little, and then let the potatoes cook for a couple of minutes until they develop that beautiful golden crust. When you reach that point, toss in the minced garlic, thyme, sea salt, and ground black pepper, give them a good stir, and continue cooking for about an extra 4-6 minutes, stirring every minute to avoid sticking. Once the potatoes are fork-tender and beautifully browned, transfer them to a plate and set aside.

3. Sear the Steak: Now, turn the heat up to medium-high and add the remaining butter to the pan. Once it’s melted and shimmering, add your pre-seasoned steak bites in a single layer. Stir and cook for 4-5 minutes until golden brown. If you want to crust them, stop moving your seak bites for 1-2 minutes on each side.

4. Bring It All Together: To finish, add the cooked potatoes back into the skillet with the steak, stirring to combine everything. Give it a final taste and add a little extra salt and pepper if needed. Sprinkle with fresh parsley (and green onions if you like) and serve hot.

My recommendations:

It will be better if you use a cast-iron skillet. It will allow you to reach that golden crust on the potatoes, and it sears really well. A stainless steel skillet is also a good choice, but don’t forget to preheat it correctly.

A mix of stir-fry vegetables goes really well with this recipe. I like to mix some broccoli, mushrooms, and courgette, but you can buy a bag of frozen vegetables and toss them with a drizzle of olive oil, salt, pepper, and one minced garlic.

These are the kitchen tools you will need!
