🥗 Why Meal Prep Will Help You Through the Week
If you’re a busy man trying to stay fit on a busy schedule, focused on your job and goals, and still want to have some quality time with your loved ones, then meal prep is your secret weapon.
Let’s be real, spending an hour every day in the kitchen isn’t something you will be looking forward to when your schedule is already packed. Don’t get me wrong, I love cooking and trying new recipes, but I still do meal prep because it provides me with a lot of benefits, such as:
- Less stress during the week — no more “what should I eat?” moments
- Saves money — no need for overpriced “healthy” takeout, or a restaurant
- Supports fitness goals — you stay on track without relying on willpower
All you need is a simple system that helps you eat clean without wasting time, like setting aside one or two hours on Sunday night to prep your meals for the next week. But there’s one thing that makes or breaks the whole meal prep process: the right containers. Because let’s be honest: if your food leaks in your bag or tastes like plastic, you will not enjoy the real benefit of meal prep, and you won’t stick with it.
👉 Which Containers Should You Use?
Let’s be real for a second, the plastic containers you grabbed a few years ago or that you reused from the last take-out are probably doing more harm than good. Why? Because they are probably leaching harmful chemicals into your food.
I personally try to avoid every plastic container, even if it says “BPA-free”, because there are more chemicals, such as BPS and phthalates, that can leak down into your food every time you heat the container or even by storing hot meals in it (this was a little bit of “nerd talk”, but I am well aware of this, especially because I work with companies that produce these kinds of plastics).
Most plastic containers are not built for real-life situations:
- The lids don’t seal properly, leading to a possible mess in your backpack
- The permanent stain from sauces (curry, tomato paste), and odors as well
- Some warp in the microwave, others crack in the freezer
If you’re already working hard to eat healthy, why risk loading your meals with plastic residues? Meal prep only works when your food still looks, smells, and tastes fresh. At least that’s how I think.
✅ What to Look for in a Great Meal Prep Container
Whether you’re packing your lunch for work, prepping dinners in bulk, or just trying to avoid eating fast food, I recommend investing in glass containers (since glass it’s more expensive, and you might not be paranoid like me using plastic containers, at least buy some high-quality BPA-free containers).
While looking for a meal container, please take special attention to these points:
- Leakproof lids (you will not want your backpack full of sauce…)
- Stackable and freezer-safe
- Microwave + dishwasher safe for quick clean-up
Down below, you will find some of my top picks, especially the airtight glass containers.
💡 Final Tip: Start Small
You don’t need 20 containers to begin meal prepping. Just start with a 5-pack, prep 2–3 meals ahead of time, and build the habit.
Healthy eating isn’t about perfection; it’s about preparation and building the habit.
